Quicksand

Quicksand

A Poem by Joey Martinez

You blame the world for your troubles
You try to blame everyone but yourself for your struggles
Gaze at the mirror, that's the man at fault
He's the reason you're helplessly caught
Caught in this quicksand of depression
Putting no effort to find the answers to your questions
Why this? Why that? Why me?
Start putting effort and soon you'll see
That this world isn't as bad as it seems
Yes are surroundings aren't the best
But this is all a test
Will you sink like the rest?
Or change for the better and rise above

What a great poem! You know, people actually do look at the world this way. I can't say I don't, because I do. Sometimes we wonder why things happen, and the way I was raised, I was told that everything happens for a reason. So if something doesn't go our way or something doesn't play out the way we want it to, than it was for a reason. That's how I look at things now. But if I know it was my fault, well God had it planned out to be my fault and that's why in the end everything happened for a reason. Either to make me realize that I can't always get my way or I shouldn't do what I want to do. But great writing. Keep writing!
