Who's In Control

Who's In Control

A Poem by Joey Martinez

As I lay here
I sense something near
The demons in my head
Are escaping through my ears
The monsters came clear
And plotted to cause havoc and fear
They climbed on my shoulder and said
"Hey Joey, you thought we were dead?"
"We would regroup while you went to bed"
"And search for the darkest thoughts that lie in your head"
"We don't come in peace, we came to destroy"
"The sanity you had was nothing more than a decoy"
"We're in control, we love playing with our toy"
"You can't stop us, we've been here since you were a little boy"
I begin to become frantic and lose control
The sweat begins to drip my eyes start to roll
I'm beginning to lose it all once again
If they win this time, it might be the end
These voices in my head need to be silenced
Before it takes over and causes me to pursue violence
The demons see me worry and laugh at my despair
One whispered "Your mind is our oxygen and we need air"
"We need a place to live and your brain is our lair"
"So give in, come on be fair"
"The more you struggle, the bigger the scare"
I'm fighting it with all I got
I was in a good state of mind, assuming they were left to rot
But it was all apart of there plot
To let me experience something I'm not
And that's being sane
Being normal, seeing sunny days instead of rain
Having a good day without pain
But that quickly went away like a stain
I can't let them win this war
I know what needs to be done
I pull the trigger
And fall alongside the gun
