Plastic Beach

Plastic Beach

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Inhaling damaged air, swimming in contaminated oceans.

Trying to last another day as we get sicker within each motion.

But no soul seems to care about the despair in the air.I envisioned a cleaner world in my head.

But those enchanting visions are long beyond dead.

The acid rain melts away my passion for hope.

The heat burns away my soul, making it harder to cope.

I foreseen the stars as being a much brighter shade.

But as I look up to the night sky my hope begins to fade.

My natural tears fall into the polluted waves of the beaches.

But they quickly turn away due to the haunting chemicals from the waste that breaches.

I am a prisoner of this climate caused by our careless acts.

People love to add more than subtract.

Will you save this plastic beach where we reside?

Or will do what the rest of world is doing,

contaminate and hide.
