Late Night Walk

Late Night Walk

A Poem by Joey Martinez

Just arrived in Clifton, approaching my destination
Praying I make it home at ease, avoiding any confrontation
I plug in my headphones and put on some calm mellow tunes
As I enjoy the nights gentle breeze that reminds me of June
The music plays and my thoughts run wild
I reminisce about the awesome times of being a child
I would appreciate a companion but for now I walk alone
Passing my fingers through the pushed aside traffic cones
Walks like these relax my soul and give me a calm feel
And the music makes it better as I play one of my favorite songs called electric feel
The nights grows darker but God provides me with the stars light
Making me feel more at ease, as if all was right
These walks are something I enjoy
I haven't had this much happiness since I was kid receiving a new toy
Having you by my side would make this night one to remember
I love your sensational vibe that sparks like a growing wild ember
I hope one day that day comes within my grasp
Because life is moving quickly and I don't know long I'll last
These thoughts distract me from time, my home is near
Thanks for protecting me God, thanks for erasing my fear
I turn the key and open the door
I lie in bed and await for what tomorrow brings in store
