We Made It

We Made It

A Poem by Joey Martinez

I walk alongside the beach, with my toes in the sand
Enjoying the beautiful view, content with where I am
They said hard work pays off, and it definitely did
I've been dreaming about this day ever since I was a kid
I came from the streets of a damaged town
But with hard work and supportive friends, I turned my life upside down
I believed that if you do what you love, the universe will reward you
So make sure your career is something you love to do
And of course, I am not enjoying my success alone
I have my friends right next to me playing with their phones
Don't ever forget to support the friends who supported you
I love these group of guys, people like them, theres only quite a few
They supported me, now its my turn to return the task
Whatever they want, they can have
I remember back when we were young
I told them, "If I make it big, they can join the fun"
Now look where we are, in a beach where we can see countless stars
We use to walk where we needed to be, but now we drive luxurious cars
We made it guys, this is it, we're finally here
Heres a toast to all of us, thanks for being with me through it all, cheers!

The theme behind this poem is inspiring. The way you lead the reader through a journey of hope leaves a lasting an emotional impact. The expression draws the reader into the experience. The rhythm/structure of this piece is a little rocky. The phrases drift from long to short, making the rhymes feel forced and deflecting from the master piece in the making. Things as this can easily be fixed by reading it out loud to yourself as a reader. Many times we picture how something will be read, but forget to keep in mind that the words simply fall in a line to those who weren't a part of the art being produced. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed the read.
