Take me back

Take me back

A Poem by Joey Martinez

" I can't wait to grow up" I foolishly said when i was a kid
As I grow older I wish I can become younger
becoming an adult is something that I don't wanna be
I miss being a kid
I miss being free
As an adult my mind is constantly racing
as a kid, the only thing I was racing my new toy cars
now I have to worry about paying bills
back then, everything I did was a thrill and all I did was chill
I have to be on time for work
when I was a kid, work, well there was no work just play
I was always at a friends house crying to my mom "please let me stay!"
toys turned into drugs
juice turned into beer
back then my biggest fear was getting hit in the rear
now i have to worry about which way the car steers
the music back then had lyrics and rhythm
now it feels empty like nothing meaningful is in them
"time goes by so fast" they said but I never paid no mind
until I was 18 and realized my life has moved faster than the blink of an eye
to all the kids, enjoy your childhood and have as much fun as you can
because being grown up is hard work and so far I am not a fan

I can relate to wanting to go back and enjoying the simple things in life and not worry about anything, but time has a way of moving forward. The part that spoke to me the most was "As an adult my mind is constantly racing," at times this drives me nuts lol

Good Job
