Empty

Empty

A Poem by Jo Todd

Your conciousness makes itself known,
by insistently prodding me in the lower back
My leg greeted with affectionate thrusts as you stare lovingly into my eyes.
I breath heavily the sent of meals left to rot and sigh out my resignation
I am tired
Sleep clings to me as the smell of damp clings to your forgotten clothes
but i roll over, assume the position
Your periodic table of sex hangs forgotten above our heads
I make a half hearted attempts at moaning in all the right places
false gasps of pleasure cover my discomfort  and i mold my face into something that i hope resembles ecstasy
When you bury your face in my shoulder I gaze unfocused at the lazy paths of our fruit fly audience
In that moment my dislike for you is as acrid as your emotions towards a*****e bus drivers and scooter kiddies
We lie like that for some time, you catching your breath
and me pretending too
Sweat prickles my skin
but it is not mine
pushing you off i make the mad dash through an obstacle course of
orange juice cartons
biscuit wrappers and
neglected clothes to relieve natures urgings
When i return, you are already dozing
the sleep of the sated
I curl myself around you, plaster my body to yours
and tell myself that this is love
