Sitting Pretty

Sitting Pretty

A Poem by Jo Todd

Sitting Pretty
In a room of gaudy baubles
a life time of memories
piled high around
each one holds her
whispers sweetly in her ear
Stay, stay with us
lose yourself in us
And through the doorway
the stranger watches
the pretty girl
sitting pretty
and the girl looks out
and seeing the stranger
does not think to look beyond
though soon her attention is snatched
from the figure in the door
brought back once more
to the trappings of her room
And the stranger
taking one last look
at the pretty girl
sitting pretty
in her pretty guilded cage
turns and walks away
