Limitless

Limitless

A Poem by Joel Armstrong

                          Limitless

To the tenebrous man I ask;

"Why do you seek
To contain me
In the limits of your mind?

Why do you seek
To suppress my voice,
When it screams to be heard?

Why do you seek
To drag me down
Whens't I vie to climb?

Why do you seek
To torment me
When I have done no wrong?

Why do you hate me so
When I have tried
Only to love? "

And the tenebrous man
Answered so, in his cold voice;
" I wish to contain you
To hinder your sense
Of reason.

I suppress thine voice
To protect my creation,
my world of darkness.

I heave you down,
To fill your heart
With endless despair.

I seek to torment you,
To break your spirit,
For it is a poison to my world.

I hate you so,
For being a threat
To my existence and my world's. "

And to him,the tenebrous man,
With all my might,
My voice and mind in perfect
synergy, I reply;

" Hate me so ,
For you are right.
I shall be the bane to your existence
And your world.

I shall persevere,
Albeit the torment
You rain upon me.

I shall ascend again,
No matter whens't
You drag me down.

For my hope is a brilliant flame
Brighter than the sun at its zenith.

My voice will be heard
In one form or another,
And it will never be suppressed.

And you,the tenebrous man
Cannot contain me,
For I am
Limitless. "

Well, I think I might have stumbled across the most epic battle to decide whether or not the glass is half full or half empty ever! I really enjoyed this poem! It made me feel both sorry for and angry at the tenebrous man, as he seems to be a victim of more sinister emotions and is just slapping away the hand of the good emotions that are trying to pull him away from what could eventually lead to his end. You've found a neat, creative way of telling a story that is really relatable for many in today's society. :)

Thank you so much Dan!!
This is an excellent piece of work. The force of darkness is always there to counter our striving. I liked the symmetry of for and against. Well done.

Much like a real rebel. Kinda reminds me of our seemingly useless efforts of changing the big evil world for the better... Then again, the current ignorant, doomed mask which the majority wears doesn't understand why it cannot break us. The fool which thinks it can stop something which is limit, and relentless. Nice write.
