The Banker and the Tramp

Poem/ Story Crossover, The story of James the Banker and the tramp!

"
It was a sunny day for both James and the tramp
A job promotion would see him become owner of the bank
Though the tramp had a more simplistic plan in mind
It was the day he would prove them all wrong and get off his behind

He woke up beneath the tree that he lay,
Both with the thought that ‘Today would be the day’
He dreamed of finding his place amongst this crooked estate
While James sat on the bus preying that he wasn’t late.

The tramp tries to pluck the courage to walk into the bank
Does it matter if he’s ugly, did it matter that he stank?
As he approaches the entrance, James walks out the door.
He is on his dinner break and it's quarter to four.

The tramps goes to the counter and asks about the position
The assistant explains he is in no fit condition.
With that one blow the tramps confidence is gone
As he stares into the abyss he is asked to move along.

James returns to work to discover he’s the boss
And that his confidence and skills really came across
So he locks up the bank with a smile on his face
And starts his journey home at his usual pace

As he walks across the park feeling like a champ
He comes across a figure looking like a tramp
Hands a £50 note to the scruffy looking guy
And says ‘life’s for the living so you better aim high’

James dreamt of the good he had done that day
He dreamt that the sun would never go away
He turned on the news as soon as he awake
To find a drunken tramp was found dead in the lake.
