To The Bitter End...A Poem by JodieHI know it is quite harsh but it is showing life isn't equalTo the bitter end… You return home, after a long time away, You look me in the eye and I can tell something is wrong. You yell at me, push me against the wall, Slam me down and accuse me of your misery. I didn’t kill your best friend, but you take it out on me
anyway, I sit there and shiver, I know you suffered a head injury. But I let you hit me anyway. You walk away and threaten to blow the house up. Later that night you come home and kick the door in, I hide under the bed and watch you stumble around, You grab my money and your bag with clothes, Then fall to the ground and shout, I hate you b***h! You
killed my man! My best man! As you walk away I phone the police, They collect you and take you away. You ask to see me but I refuse to come, Your duty is done, now it’s my call. I pack my bag, and turn my phone in, My handbag and keys, my life in pieces. I take a risk, I wear the boots, I know now what I have to do. I leave my kids, my home, my life, To join this world over the forbidden line. You come back to call, and are told to fight, You pick up the gun and run to the front line. You stand there in shock as you aim to shoot, your sergeant
shouting from behind you. You drop to your knees and remove the bullets; You then grab a grenade and pull the pin. I stand there and just watch as you then throw it at the
world. The week is up. You’re shattered, And I’m lost. I asked to cross. The boss said yes and I changed my name,
to yours instead. Now I’m on your side, once again, The enemy in toe, the world a mess, we fight for our lives, To live and survive, for love and hope, so we can grow old. But one by one, we get shot down, Bending over backwards to plead for help. The recovery begins, The fight not over, you’re scared I’m hurt, but pull me
over. On a quiet night away from the bangs, We lay in wonder and watch the stars. Thinking of a better life, Our children, You ask me to be your wife. Seconds pass and we are called again, To fight one side to the bitter end. Our time almost up, To return home, To our children, To start again. I said yes on that quiet night, To shock you when I turn from sight, I pull the barrel back snapping to the cylinder, I pull the
trigger. You hear the noise ripple through your head, The sudden thought of me lying dead. You then come running, but I’m already gone, You grab my hand but fall to the sand, You lay motionless, With a tear down your check, Your time is up. My shadow over your body, I say with a shudder, “That’s for the beating”, Drop the gun and walk away… © 2012 JodieHFeatured Review
