Chapter 1

Walking out of the market town as the winds became stronger, Saki stopped for a moment as the winds sent a chill through her body. Shaking it off, Saki quickly placed the soaked black cloak back over her shoulders and continued walking out the market town.

Looking up at the sky as she walked, Saki knew that it would reach total darkness within minutes and quickened her pase as she looking in front of her and saw a forest. “I can maybe find a good enough tree to sit under until the rain stops.” She said to her.

Hearing horse galloping closer and closer towards her position from within the forest, Saki stopped and watched, hopping that it wasn’t the commander and his horsemen. Staying still, her eyes widened as the white horse she saw earlier carried the dead body of the commander from out of the forest. Walking and stopping next to her, the horse shook its head and snorted as the commander fell next to Saki. Hopping back as her body began to slightly shake, Saki slowly looked back up at the horse only to see it starring her back in the eyes.

“Easy there…” Saki said to her horse as she slowly raised her hand to see if the horse would let her touch him.

Lowering his head and letting her rub his head, he sorted and laid down beside the commander. Turning her head and looking back at the commander, Saki’s slight fear of standing next to a dead man quickly left her mind and stopped her from shaking.

“The horse…” Saki thought to herself. “Can…would you let me ride?” She asked the horse only to get a silent stare. Walking over to his side and toughing the saddle, the white horse quickly stood and snorted. “Let me ride you, please. You’re without a master and I’m without a home, let me be your master and find us a place to stay for the night. I’ll steel us something to eat in the morning. Deal?” She said as she made an offer with the horse, hoping that he’d understand what she said and agree. Snorting and lowering back to the ground as he accepted the deal she slowly hopped onto the horse and rubbed his head with kindness.

“I’m guessing that I should name you huh?” She asked the horse only to get silence. “Cloud…for now on, your name will be Cloud.” Saki told the horse as he snorted and nodded his head. “Alright, let’s get going shall we?”

Turning Cloud back towards the forest, Cloud shook his head and took a step back as he refused to go back in.

“We have no choice…” She said to Cloud. “It’s the only way we can go. You’ll be okay, I’ll protect you. Okay?”

Snorting and nodding his head letting her know that he trust her, Cloud slowly began walking towards the forest and stopped in front of the trail that led deep into the forest. “You ready?” Saki asked the horse as he nodded. Gently tapping the horse on his side, he quickened up his pase and walked into the forest. “Thank you Cloud.” She said softly, showing him gratitude.

Getting inside the forest as rain fell harder from the sky, Saki listened as rain dropped on leaves and branches. Feeling her stomach rumble as she continued down the trail with her horse, Saki looked down and placed her right hand over her stomach as her eyelids slowly lowered. Shaking her head and forcing her eyes to open back up all the way, she then squinted her eyes and saw a something tall up ahead of her.

“What is that?” She asked herself as she got closer and closer. Stopping in front of it as lightning struck, her eyes widened as she gave a slight smirk. “It’s a cabin.” Hopping off her horse, Saki walked up the three stairs and knocked on the wide door. Not getting a response after several knocks, Saki placed her hand on the knob and gave the door a twist. “It’s, unlocked.” She said as she slowly pushed the door opened.

Creeping inside and taking a look around she noticed that there was nothing inside. Taking a step forward as the floor presented a loud squeaked, she stopped and looked around once again to see if anyone would respond to the squeaking.

“There’s really no one here.” She said to herself as lightning flashed in through the window and revealed holes in the cabin floor.

Hearing her horse outside stepping up on of the stair, she turned around and rushed back outside next to him. “We have the place all to ourselves, come on.” She said as she grabbed the rope around his muzzle and gave it a pull. Finally getting her companion inside, she quickly closed the door and felt around for a lock.

“No wonder the door was unlocked.” She said to herself. “There’s no lock.”

Turning back towards Cloud and watched him settle himself in a corner as lightning struck, she decided to do the same and walked over to his position. Placing her back against the cold cabin wood, she slid down the wall then laid on her side. Grabbing her soaked cloak, she pulled it over her head and upper body and closed it tightly around her, hoping that it’ll bring her some warmth. Not noticing how tired she was, her eyes quickly closed and she fell asleep.
