The Boy and His ShadowA Poem by J. Kell
There once was a shadow
That followed a boy He lived all alone He had not a joy The shadow followed him His entire life The darkness his friend He lived without light "I cannot dwell With those people of light They don't understand", Said the boy of the night "To them everything Must be blindingly white There is no grey They must always be right" 'Though he tried And tried with all of his might The boy couldn't abide that blinding white light If he walked in their light His shadow went away The friend that followed him Both night and at day Until finally at long last the shadow consumed him The boy ceased to be To all who once knew him The boy finally silenced The people felt at ease They viewed his visions As a violent disease Never again did they think of that lonely boy His sudden destruction Was the people's greatest joy. © 2015 J.
