A Story by Vaibhav Singh Thakur

ONE YEAR LATER
He was eagerly waiting for his name to be announced.
Rechecking his important documents and certificates
brought a copacetic smile on his face.
It was a sunday morning of june 2,2012.His cellphone
rang with that soothing tone. It was his friend Rajat.
Rajat told him something making him inquisitive.
Anxiously he ran towards the living room and switched on
his computer. Two minutes of booting process were
seeming as two hours. His heart beats were increasing
with every second passed.
He opened the site; entered his roll number. He closed his
eyes and pressed ENTER.In those few seconds he prayed
all the gods he knew. Silently with a little fear and more
hope he opened his eyes and saw following.
NAME:Armaan
NEET-UG ROLL NO:86.....28
MARKS OBTAINED: 522
NEET RANK(OVERALL): 5,342
NEET (STATE RANK): 34
Rajat was right. The result had been announced previous
night. Though he won't get GOVT. MEDICAL COLLEGE,
Chandigarh but surely IGMC Shimla.
He remembered the first Sunday of june which was his
best sunday ever. For this day he had put his two
precious years. He sacrificed his love for it. But some
corner of his heart still blames him for his action. Was he
really a cheater or was a brave guy to take such a
grievous decision?
"Akashi .......HP NEET RANK 29"was announced.
The announcement brought him back to the councelling
hall. He was astounded. His eyes glued toward the
councilors table. A girl with blue top and black denim was
standing there; back pointing towards him. The
resembling hair style, the identical height was delineating
her. But she was thin; contrary, his Akashi had been a
chubby girl. He kepttryinga glance of her.
"Armaan..... HP NEETRANK 34"his name was announced
third time.
When he realised; he bulged towards councillors imitating
the rabbit swiftness.
"Badi mushkil se seat millihai or isse bhi gwana chahte
ho" Counsellor's sarcastic statement welcomed him.
"Sorry sir", it was his only reply.
After ten minutes of Documents inspection, he got the
piece of paper he deserved- Admission Letter.
While reverting towards his seat, he spotted her. His
Akashi was there; a little changed. The dark circles
revealed her sleepless nights. Intensive studies or endless
crying? He couldn't presume. He wanted to talk to her; to
share his feelings; his pain of separation-but he couldn't.
He kept watching her. The strand of hairs falling on her
face and with her skinny fingers, she kept placing them at
appropriate place. He scented the absence of her smile.
The smile for which he had always died. Her nails were
without glittering nail paints. For the first time he had
seen her bare nails.
She fortuitously looked towards the place where Armaan
was gazing her. The eyes met, got widened and stopped
blinking. Suhan had a smile on his face but Akashi was
numb and emotionless. Her face became even worse; she
ignored and never looked towards that side again. Being
little shocked, he had hoped for this reaction. After all it
was all this he deserved.
After counselling was over, she slowly moved out from
the room like others and soon dissappeared in the crowd,
so did his heartbeats in the cacophonic noises.
