Why...?

Why...?

A Story by Jiyuu
"

Sometimes, it's best not to get close to others. They just hurt you in the end.

"
A gentle breeze brushed through the girl's hair. It burned her glistening brown eyes. She had cried. Her so-called "friends" had betrayed her once again. Led her to believe that she was worth something. That she belonged somewhere. Once she was in deep, they crushed her. Shattered whatever hope that remained in her fragile heart. So young, yet she felt like death was her only way out. She did not want to go back down that dark road again. However, her options were limited. She decided on one final life-line. Her best friend. He was a joker, and that led to some issues between them. They had known each other for three years, so she had gotten over it. She called him, and they talked.
"I knew this would happen," the girl had said, tears threatening to fall. The boy merely looked at her with a solemn look on his face.
"Maybe you just need more sleep," he had said. She shot her head up and glared at him.
"Are you f*****g joking right now? You're the only person I can really talk to and you say THAT?!"
He rolled his eyes. "Seriously. You're always like this. Constant mood swings. Happy one day, then all depressed the next."
The tears fell. "Sorry I'm not optimistic like you."
The boy sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "Rest. You need it." He got up and left her there, to think about things.
As soon as the door closed, all the unshed tears freely fell down her soft face. She didn't even try to wipe them off. She just sat there, and cried. Ten minutes later, she decided what she would do. She got up, and walked toward the window.
She opened it.
And she smiled. "I'll do what you said. I will rest."
...
The boy heard an ambulance down the block. He had gotten up, curious of what the commotion was about. It was headed straight for the girl's house. All the color on his face drained. He quickly put on his sneakers and ran out the front door.
"Please be alright..." said his inner thoughts.
He was wrong. There, lying on the concrete, was the lifeless body of his best friend. She was smiling. Smiling within her own puddle of blood. As if she was finally at peace. Something wet hit his face. He looked up.
Rain.
The boy gritted his teeth. Clenched his fists. Wanted to scream, but couldn't. It wasn't right at a Funeral. Her smiling face was shown in a photo. Back when she didn't have a care in the world. Back when the word betrayal had no meaning to her. Back when she was truly happy.
Everyone left. But the boy stayed. He stared at the ground, where she was now buried. He bent down, and stared. Tears overflowing.
"...I'm sorry."
"...I killed you."
"...I will atone for my sins."
A gunshot was heard. People ran. More tears. More pain.
The boy had committed suicide.
Just like the girl had done.
For both would be free.

And obtain eternal happiness.

Author's Note

Jiyuu
Yes, um... This is not entirely fiction. The girl in the story is based off of me, while the boy is based off my actual best friend. Everything that happened in this story, minus the suicides, is something that I am actually going through right now, and have been for a while. I felt that it was good to share a more personal side of me through this short-story. I do feel betrayed by certain people, and it's sickening to me. I know that I am not alone in situations like this. It is a daily issue that everyone in this world goes through at least once in their lives. Still, I hope a number of you enjoyed this. :)
