If

If

A Poem by Jim McKenna
"

Questionings.

"

What if

what if

what if she leaves me?

I thought.

What if

what if

what if she runs off with another man?

She wouldn't, she said,

with every measure of confidence.

And I calmed down a bit,

at least for a while.

Today she ran off with another man.

The last line struck me as funny. There's a dark humor to it.

I like this. Short, simple, to the point. A thought that crosses everyone's mind at one point or another, as you've said. This can apply to anyone and anyone can relate to it. Awesome universal poem.

Although doubt can sometimes seem like paranoia, it can be quite helpful as well. Good poem.

I really like this.
People shouldn't make a promise they don't know if they can keep.
It doesn't help anyone
