CHAPTER 10: TRENCH COAT AND THE BOOK

CHAPTER 10: TRENCH COAT AND THE BOOK

A Chapter by Jim

FEBRUARY 26, 1991

THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS

Trench Coat walked back to his seat from the bathroom. Hardcover was peering out the window in silence. After a few minutes of Trench Coat inspecting him, Trench Coat spoke. “Whut’s in ya book there, mate?”

“Oh, uhh…” Hardcover turned around, “it’s my story. I’m working on a fictional historical story about two characters trapped in time.”

“Can I read a bit of it?”

“Oh, it’s not good, really, and it’s only partially written"”

“Lemme read the bloody book, mate.” Trench Coat leaned forward with a threatening stare under his sunglasses.

Hardcover hesitated, but handed the book over. Trench Coat started flipping through it, skimming as he went. “This is really cool, mate! I ain’t EVER met a real author before.” He kept looking through it.

“Thank you, really. Can I have it back now?”

            “Hold ya bloody horses, mate!”

Then Trench Coat found what he was looking for. He found the sentence in the book he was looking for. He, Lee Harvey Oswald, found what he was looking for. “The one who led to my daughter’s death and the one with the corn-yellow hair and the eyes like diamonds who has the greatest chance to stop me, without their time tech, wake up suddenly, in the worst possible place, The Black Death. November 26, 1347, Europe, to be exact. In an old building where the sick, infected, dead bodies burned…”

“Here we go,” Trench Coat said, losing his accent. He took out a pencil, about to write in the book.

“Hey, man, what the hell are you doing?!” Hardcover yelled, jumping out of his seat and grabbing the book. Trench Coat stood up after, ripping off his jacket and throwing off his fedora and glasses, revealing Lee underneath.

“I’m looking for my friends, Kevin, now give me the book!” Lee yelled, as he lunged for Kevin. Lee threw a punch but Kevin used the book to deflect it and knock Lee on the ground. By the time Lee rolled over holding a pistol aimed right at Kevin, Kevin grabbed his Time-Blast and was aiming right back down at Lee.

“Lee, you’re stuck. You surrender and never exist, shoot me and never exist, or shoot the book and stop history from happening. What’ll it be?”

“Kevin, if you bring my friends back and return the book to the true end of time, we’ll let you come back here and change history and keep your daughter alive. Just hand me the book and it’ll all be ov"”

            “WHAT WILL IT BE?”

Lee paused. He glanced down and saw Kevin was standing over Lee’s leg. He glanced back at Kevin. Quickly, Lee raised his gun and shot the ceiling, startling Kevin. Kevin shot the time blast at Lee, but Lee rolled out of the way, kicking Kevin’s leg and knocking him over. Lee quickly pulled down his sleeve and entered the date and location he read in the book. The red swirly portal showed up and Lee jumped in.

By the time Kevin regained his balance, stood up, and turned around with his Time-Blast, Lee was gone.
