PROLOGUE: THE SILHOUETTE MAN

PROLOGUE: THE SILHOUETTE MAN

A Chapter by Jim

APRIL 30, 1789

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

It was a great day for Americans. The crowd waited in silence as George Washington took oath as the first ever president of the States. Once finished, the crowd went crazy for the new leader of their new nation.

Alf was amongst the cheering crowds. He cheered right along with them. When he looked up, though, he saw something. When Alf looked up, just past the cheering crowds, he saw a shaded silhouette of a person angelically move behind a building. Alf pushed a button in his ear as he turned and walked out of the crowds. “Lee! He’s coming your way!”

Hiding down the alley for the shaded figure was Agent LHO, waiting. He put his fingers to his ear, like Alf. “Ok, I’m here.” he whispered. He crouched down more into the shadows behind a pile of dirt. He reached down, moved his dark trench-coat out of the way, and grabbed the handle of the gun in his belt, cocking it as he did so. He looked up over the dirt and saw the figure come bolting from around the corner, darting down the alley. Once he passed where LHO was hiding, LHO flicked his wrist up really fast and pulled the trigger on his pistol, striking the figure in the calf muscle. The figure yelled and stumbled down to the ground. LHO rose to his feet and ran after the wounded figure, but the figure rolled over, yielding his Time-Blast (a gun that erases anything it hits from time). The figure tried to strike LHO, which would erase him from time, but LHO moved. One miss. Two miss. Three miss.

LHO ran back and hid again before he got erased from time. The figure leaned up to look around. When he saw nothing, he struggled to rise, but he did, and he limped and hopped the rest of the way down the alley. LHO got back up and saw nothing in the alley. He brought his fingers to his ear again. “Alf, I shot him down, but he got back up and got away.”

“Don’t worry; I know exactly where he is.” Alf replied, over the speaker. He’s been hiding out near an old abandoned war-hospital near where LHO was in the alley (The figure ran into the building right before LHO reached out to Alf). When the coast was clear, Alf held his gun up as he slowly made his way towards the hospital.  He opened the door and walked in, still staying slow. He looked around, but saw nothing. He turned towards the door, but out of the shadows, a bullet was released.

Alf got shot in the shoulder blade and fell down, screaming in pain. He rolled over to see the figure emerge from the shadows, putting his pistol away. He was a tall, slim man with a long black coat, black pants and shoes, a black scarf around his long neck, a ski mask that covered his whole face except his eyes, and black gloves. “Oh my gosh, is that…Alf?!” the figure said with a raspy, gravely, shaky voice. “Oh wow, how’ve ya been, buddy? It’s been too long! Or…was it yesterday? Or next week? Or 1963? I forget, time traveling can do so much to your brain!”

“I’m fine, you idiot.” Alf said, trying to hold in a scream. “Once Time gets here, you’ll be"”

“When will they arrive? You’re here dying, your partner is gone from time, no one is here to get a signal to come here!”

LHO made his way over to the hospital silently, and looked into the window to see what was happening. When he heard he was mentioned he ducked down so he wasn’t seen.

“You……you wiped Lee from time?” Alf said, shocked.

“And you’re gonna join him.” The figure grabbed his Time-Blast from his belt and aimed it at Alf. As it whirred up, Alf gave a loud, bloodcurdling scream. As the figure pulled the trigger, he made it Alf’s last, as Alf dissolved into thin air, being erased from time, never existing.

LHO heard this, and quickly got up and looked in the door. The figure was walking into a red swirled time portal. LHO grabbed his gun and kept shooting at the figure, but by the time he turned around, the portal was closed, and he was on his way to another point in time.

This is interesting. Though I am not much into superhero stuff, I'd like to read the rest of the book. And I don't think that you can "barely write anything" :) keep writing!

Nice prologue. You penned a great opening scene of LHO chasing an unknown figure. I really enjoyed the idea that the figure had a Time blasting gun - that was a good use of the imagination. For me personally, to see something different is such a welcoming read.

Good descriptives were used when describing the slim man. I LOVED the red time portal thing too.
This piece was well structured, dialogue skills were well crafted and you're descriptives were nicely done. I most certainly am keen to read more.

Mark.
