The Sound of White

The Sound of White

A Poem by J
"

written one spring when dandelions filled the air ... and my allergies went haywire

"

Dandelion fluffs amass in the corners of my porch

pretending

to be snow

completely naive and undone

waiting for me to speak from

the smallness of knees to chest

of the order and timing of the universe

arbitrarily familiar in sleep-deprived moments

of startled alone

It feels like letting go of the sky

this complication of symphonies in D and

amber fossils warming the temperature of ink

set about this page

But I listen for the sound of

your smile in the fullness of dreams

in the hum of white.noise running along soft sheets

in the absolute physicality of snow in May.

I love dandelions too. The are so medicinal to the eye that sees their magic, to the body that tastes their magic and to the heart that feels their snow flakes seed the desolate minds of the world. You are in full bloom :) This is stunning, J!

J. your words take flight and then float in air and inspire the reader to write..for your poems and phrases are of a true poet. This has such a romantic and peaceful tone..to think it came about from allergies..you are a creator..beautifully expressed..

beautiful. like butterfly kisses on the cheek in the rain
I have said it before and feel guilty now for repeating , but I will carry the weight, I felt her smile in the middle of the kiss, and I liked it.

This is just beautiful. There is a gentle lilt to your voice as you describe the dandelion fluff and your ability to build to the romantic in this speaks to your skill as a writer. Brava!

thank you for your thoughtful, inspiring words, blue. you are ever kind.
I really enjoyed how you wove the romantic with the free floating drift of the dandelion seeds. It offers an interesting sensation, somewhere between a giggle and a sigh. At the same time the words can't help but pull one into the deep resonation of one's heart as it beats and throbs to life's passions, for the fleeting moment while the wind ruffles the drying clothing on the clothes line.

I think the one thing I was expecting and didn't get in this piece was the outrageous sneeze that would have accompanied the "Howdy, Come on in and have a cup of Iced Tea!" Thus....the cup would have been rendered outwards as, "....a Cu-Poweeeeeeee! Exusea Meeeeee... would you like some ice tea."

But even though we didn't see the sneeze... this poetry of yours is always exceptional and never fails to please the eyes of a poets gaze.

Thanks much for sharing your ink light!

You are a wordsmith, Jill...I too wish I had written this!

Dandelions are as lovely as a flower to me, simply for their "physicality of snow"!
