winter

winter

A Poem by J

Winter . . .

I can see it turning around in the light

folding the brittleness of summer into

the monotony of sharp sticks

It is still . . .

the music of days

the angle of shadows

bumping into deeper blues

wintry intentions

Measures.

For you see . . . minutes are taken in lots

of usability, worthiness

like hours and days dressed in

my incidental skin

      tying tighter knots

trying to paint the sky to match

Those pounding background keys

           piano notes of second nature;

shaded compliments trading air and bottled

for safekeeping

consequences of falling stars

ah, you knew i could read this, and that your words would touch my also oldening heart...sometimes sadness can be so sweet (when it comes dressed in mutuality)...ah, the muse will even use the black keys to make a little music...fortunately the stars have lots of room to fall, and time to measure the meaning of time...these end times can be the fullest of all because all those things that mattered so much pale in the light of this new sunrise...so much love, ed

thank you for your delightful review, pat. muchly appreciated :)
You brush the blues of a winter scape and make them sing. Angels and shadows dance among your words. You use language in the most unique couplings and it is wondrous.

giggles. then my work is done -- haha! goofball :)
This is profoundly sad. It makes me want to cry--cry for you, and cry out against the dying of the light. But March isn't that far off....if we can only get there.

The above lines were amazing. Create vision and thought with the good description. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

awww thank you kind sir :)
Such a serenity flows from your eloquent, carefully chosen words in this wonderfully written free verse, j. It's almost as if you were comparing winter to the twilight years of one's life. Whatever the intent, it was beautifully executed, and the vivid, visual imagery you create using only the palette of the written word is stunning.

Wonderfully rendered, beautifully composed.

You've always captured hearts and minds with your words. Always.. and always will. You can create a masterpiece with mere letters.. and this poem is no exception.

That last stanza is truly magnificent..
