The plea

The plea

A Poem by Isimbabi

Promise me to never fight a friend
Let them go when you make a fist
and count to three before you speak
promise to walk if you lose your head

Promise me to never bite a friend
Let go if you lose trust in them
Tell stories but leave out their names
Promise me to never seek revenge

Promise me to always tell the truth
or say “No, I cannot tell you”
cut ties if it takes that for peace
But promise to never breach this vow

Promise to always hold up the bar
Nod to candour even when harsh
Never throw honour to the wind
Swear for you to always keep your cool

Promise you to always be the friend
To endure as long as you can
and count to three before you speak
For I my friend, have made that promise

Your guide for preserving friendship is very good and has almost a biblical ten commandments feel about. Friendship is valuable commodity and easy to fra ture with just one ill considered word.
Well done!
All the best.
