Death is My LoveA Chapter by Jhansi Ki Rani*DO NOT READ IF TOPICS LIKE RAPE/CHILD ABUSE WILL DISTRESS YOU* Ruby blinked as horror glowed in the bright blue eyes of the shaggy-haired blonde boy. A slick, leather vest exposed his muscular torso, chained jeans gracing his legs. Dark, black combat boots were woven onto his feet as he held tightly onto the thick silver, double-edged Kurasigama chains fastened in the fingerless dark black gloves covering his hands. Ruby's eyes widened in horror as he spoke, "You can see me?" She blinked as her fragile voice whispered, "W-W-Why wouldn't I?!" she questioned, stammering slightly as she began to move backwards on her bed, until she hit the wall. A rustling noise came from the bushes outside, as Jake jumped forward, landing next to Ruby as an odd creature burst through the remainder of what had been her window. Her eyes widened in shock and horror as slime oozed from opening scattered across his scale green skin. Purple splotches dripped with blue puss as Ruby felt her breakfast beginning to surface in her stomach. Jake leaped forward, slicing his chained scythe through the creature as he cried, "You're mine!" he growled. He successfully cut off a big green chuck, causing red blood to seep to the hardened wood floor. The creature only staggered backwards before regaining his footing as Ruby began to shift even more to the corner, squeaking in fright as Jake attempted to cut through the creature again, but she was surprised to find, though round shaped and small, it was surprisingly very agile, and able to move quickly. Fear overruled fear as the fighting duo began to stagger into the house outside the comfort of her bedroom.. "No, no, no!" Ruby cried, sprinting behind them as the oozing green creature slammed against the porcelain coffee table. "Stop it!" she demanded, attempting to pry Jake from furthering the damage to the table. Jake whizzed around again as he spoke, "You don't understand! There's this Astagami on your coffee table and I need too-" He was stopped suddenly as the slimy green creature pounced forward, attempting to grab at his face as he pulled himself, and Ruby to the ground. "Watch it!" he growled. Ruby began to stammer as she spoke, "My parents!" she demanded, "They're gonna… they're gonna…" Ruby shuddered at the thought of her punishment as she finished, "Kill me!" Jake laughed as he turned, his bright blue eyes, "I'll have to explain all this in a few moments, but for now, could you please uh…" he glanced around, "Hide under the table?" Without hesitation, Ruby quickly squirmed underneath the mahogany chairs, covering her ears as the scene outside went down. Jake jumped to his feet, determination in his crystal blue eyes as he swung the chains around the creature, until he was wound into a tight ball. Jake's arms began to tremble as the creature roared with rage, forcing Ruby to cover her ears. The chains were nowhere near strong enough restraints as the slimy monstrosity broke free of the within seconds. Balls of green fluid erupted from its palms as Jake just narrowly managed to avoid them. The beams hit the cabinets plastered to the wall which had previously been his lean body. Acid dripped to the floor as the wooden frames began to turn charcoal in color, a sizzling sound erupted from them as it melted straight through the cabinets. Ruby whimpered at the thought of the punishment that would reach her soon after, but she was torn from her thoughts as she felt a loud bang atop the table. Jake kicked and squirmed under the grasp of the creature as he attempted to pry it from his arms. "Damn it!" he cried, as acid began to drip from its slimy lips, melting the mahogany table underneath. Sweat began to slip from his face as he placed his gloved hands against the slobbery skin of the creature. "Flamine!" he cried. A gust of wind erupted from the palms of his hands as the creature was flown backwards, straight into the wooden cabinets. The hinges were barely hanging from the wall as a plethora of toilet paper and paper towel rolls spilled to the floor. The slimy green creature retaliated quickly, as a massive amount of glowing beams erupted from his hands. Jake was forced to pull a chair from the table and jump behind it as a shield. However, the wood was no match for the creature's power as it began to melt to the ground. "Well, I guess someone's just too hot to handle," Jake mocked, "But we'll have to continue this another time!" He rose his gloveless hands as a bracelet attached to the end of his gloves glowed bright red in color, "Tenere!" he commanded, as a red circle began to form around the creature. The green monster pounded against the object, but it began to shrink around his form, encasing him into a miniscule ball as Jake raised his bracelet to face the small object. "Ingreditur!" he cried. The red hue entered his small bracelet as he began to pound multiple buttons against the odd bracelet as he mentally smacked himself. He quickly turned on his heels and dropped back to the ground, searching for Ruby, who cowered in fear underneath the table. Her hands were head over her ears, brown eyes shut tightly as she mumbled to herself, "This is not happening…. This is NOT happening…" Jake swallowed, scratching his head nervously as he crawled underneath the table, "Uh… " He started nervously, as Ruby's eyes fluttered open, filled with fear and anger as she continued to tremble. "So… you can see… I mean… right now, you can see me?" he questioned. Meekly, the girl simply nodded her head as Jake took a deep breath, "Well, then I guess I have quite a bit of explaining to do?" he smiled nervously as the girl slipped out from under the table. "I-I-I don't care!" she stammered, her nervous nature returning to her as she forced the words from her lips, "Please fix my house and leave!" she begged, clapping her hands together as if she were doing a prayer, "That's all I ask, and I won't speak of this to anyone!" she cried. "See, I wish it was that simple…" Jake chuckled nervously, "But you're gonna have to come with me," he smiled, offering a hand. Ruby's eyes glowed in horror, as if he had gone mad, "If you don't… then you'll have THIS mess to deal with," he muttered, gesturing to the mess surrounding the duo as Ruby lowered her head in defeat, slowly taking his hand. "This is your first time, so it'll be a little shaky!" he warned. Ruby swallowed nervously, inspecting the damage that had been done. Perhaps if it wasn't as bad, she would've taken care of the mess herself, of course, there was no way a sixteen year old had any hope of refurbishing an entire wooden cabinet in less than six hours… "And whatever you do, do NOT, NOT, NOT let go!" he demanded, his warm glaze becoming cold and icy, "Under ANY circumstances!" He squeezed her hand gently, as he noticed the look of fear on her face as she agreed, as he felt her muscles tense, "Loosen up!" he teased, elbowing her slightly. Ruby only gave him a death glare as he turned away slightly. A gust of green energy surrounded the two as Ruby yearned to close her eyes, yet held them open to keep aware of her surroundings. "Lanuae Magicae!" Jake roared, as the green orb began to shake violently before the house around them began to fall away. The walls crumbled away as the two were sent into a world of eerie darkness, not even small specks of light were visible as Ruby gripped Jake's hand tightly. To her, it was the only proof that she wasn't just floating in empty darkness. A sudden feeling dropped in her stomach as her bright brown eyes were surrounded by the silence of the blackness, was this how death felt? She wondered if her brother wandered in this peaceful realm as she was forced to live this hellish nightmare. Was death the fate she'd reach if she were to let go of Jake's hand, this very moment? Would her luck be so kind to pull her from the evil world she had been born too? Her lips went dry as the thought rebounded into her mind time in, and time out. However she found herself only squeezing harder, she was not like her brother, and she was not brave enough for suicide. Only the bravest could do something so wonderful, she wasn't anywhere near that standard of bravery. She felt Jake's voice slip down her spine as a shiver erupted down her bones, "Hold on tight!" he demanded, "Close your eyes if you want to let go," he whispered. The darkness began to fade into light as precious memories began to play before her mind, beatings, many beatings, in fact, she was able to see the one from today itself play before her. Her mother's multiple pinches resided on her skin as her cheeks burned red, he couldn't see these, could he? Her eyes wandered around the multiple scenes that played before her, as her heart set on one. This was not of her own memory, this was the memory of her other half. This, belonged to her brother. She watched in horror as the cool steel of the knife was raised to his rest, she watched as his head lay limply against the porcelain bath tub. His musical laughter filled the empty washroom as his voice whispered coarsely, "I never thought I'd do this… but I have too…" Shaggy brown bangs began to fall in his hollow eyes as he took a deep breath, pressing the sharpened edge to the vein popping forward from his wrist. Ruby watched in jealousy, she felt anger rise in her chest as she longed to be in his position. His hollow eyes traced the veins that popped from his bare arm with his finger as he let out a low chuckle. "Sorry Rubes," he mumbled, "I suppose I should've told you, if anyone, but 'I can't take it anymore. I'm too selfish, one of us has to live, and it sure as hell can't be me anymore." Ruby felt hot tears burn in her eyes as she longed to pull free from his grasp and beat the crap out of the boy. "But maybe you should come too, it's just like falling asleep I hear," he winked in her direction as a calming sensation began to come over her. "If you do it my way anyway…" He sat in the tub of warm water as he held the silver blade to his arm, it soon made contact with his flesh; the musical sound entered Ruby's ears as the blade began to slice cleanly down the thick vein protruding from his skin. She could see the blue artery tearing open as red liquid began to trickle forward. The hollowness in his eyes began to grow weary as he dipped his arm in the warm water. "Hey Rubes? What was that song…?" His eyes began to change into a new glow as they were much brighter a lively than before, just the thought that he was escaping brought endless joy and happiness into his heart. "Two little monkeys jumping on the bed…" his voice became a meager whisper as his skin began to grow pale, and the water turned a murky red as the blood slipped from his arm. It was calming, she could see the sleepiness in his eyes as she watched longingly, "One fell off and bumped his head," he giggled, as the light began to leave his warm eyes, "Momma called the doctor and the doctor said…" his head fell limply against the back of the tub, as a smile formed upon his face before he fell away. He fell away from the dark torturous life he had been forced to endure. A small whisper escaped Ruby's lips as her hand began to slip, "No more monkey's jumping on the bed…" Jake's voice sounded through her ears, but it felt lost and hollow, nothing like the melodious run of water that run over her brother's corpse in the porcelain coffin. Her eyes roamed lazily as the green circle began to spit her outwards, towards the porcelain tub as she giggled lightly, "But I want to jump off the bed! I want to jump too!" Her brown eyes gleamed with happiness as she felt the ground coming for her, "Please, let me JUMP!" But as the circle left, the scene before her retreated, it scattered away as her brother, the tub of happiness, and the beautiful blood left her mind. A frown formed on her face as she searched the area, but nothing came, only the emptiness that had been before, the eerie darkness that had gnawed at her insides had returned. Only this time, she had no one to hold on to. © 2012 Jhansi Ki RaniAuthor's Note
