A Reluctant Escape

A Reluctant Escape

A Poem by ElizaB

I held myself back;

Not you.

The beauty in black;

Never you.

Already let go,

Never look back.

You told me so…

Cue: Anxiety Attack;

Upon my soul.

A new heart

For you,

A fresh start;

Yet, you knew,

I’d fall apart

At your feet,

This old heart;

Mine to keep.

Now say goodbye

As I weep.

It is I,

Who waits

With tears

From youths eye.

As you undress,

Caress,

Only guess

The lie.

This mess

I’ve become,

Much less;

How numb;

At the hand

I long

To take,

As planned

To make

The voice inside

Go;

The one which hides

To guide

When low.

Please,

Take it with you

As you go.
