Queen of HeartsA Poem by ElizaBNobody knew her name, Just that she danced At the Queen of Hearts. Moved for restless men, Women, husbands and liars. Some in trainers, Some in tights. Stumbling; Satisfied and soaked Into moonlight. Returning to Wives, lovers and children Alike. Awake at night With her body in mind. She never left; In daylight, In dreams, In secret She danced. Her face in mist, Eyes ever changing. They just watched, Blinking away their wives. What did she go home to? What did she live for? Once the track ends And they vanish… Just a stage; A prop; With too much make up Beneath bright light. Every flaw on show, Alight, Afire, Just for her To see. To Loath… Please, Turn the lights out. © 2018 ElizaB |
