Waiting For The World To Thaw

Waiting For The World To Thaw

A Poem by ElizaB

We wait,
For the world to thaw,
Pick diamonds from the gate
And frost from the door.
Let us dress
In layers
In best
And wrap and guess
Children's prayers
And rest.
Hang lights
For strangers
And stars
For gift exchangers.
On dark nights
De ice
Against flickering lights
Return late and
Pay the price
Drop the bags
Laden with the bar
Remember to be nice
Write their tags with
Dreams door ajar.
Lay, wake, prepare
Cross the days
Against lovers glare
And lose the gaze
That brought you there.
It will end,
Soon enough
In paper and lights and blend
Memories surrounding bluff.
We wait,
For the world to thaw,
Pick splinters from the gate
And sunlight from the door.
