The one that no one sees

The one that no one sees

A Poem by Donald Olds

A Poem by Jeztr

"

The one that no one sees at all

goes unoticed by many.

But those who notice him hate him or so it seems.

He sits in the darkest corner of the room,

Quiet and still, unoticed by all.

I am the one that no one sees at all.

I'm the loner, the outcast, the loser.

I'm lower that the "low man on the totem pole"

You treat me like your B***h - like I'm the dirt on your shoes.

I've been through hell several times and now I'm back.

People take one look at me and run away

But there are people who see me for who I really am.

But they are the people like me.

The loners, the goths, and other people like me that see the same way I do.

I can definitely relate to this.
The blunt way in which you put this piece together truly suits the way in which we, the 'oddities' of our time, are so duly treated. But it is the oddities that really know who they are, that really know what the world is about.

To find friends like yourself is sometimes a challenge, but the ones you do find, shall be your friends, for life.

I know how it feels, sometimes I do feel this way but also I am cheering myself to get over it by looking at the good side of my life from memories and so on.
Anyway, well done.

Indeed a sad reality for many people, including myself. I have one question though {I'm lower that the "low man on the totem pole"} in that line is that supposed to be than?

{He sits in the darkest corner of the room,
Quiet and still, unoticed by all.}
Those two lines provide such good imagery, and are personally my favourite. Thank-you for sharing. Wonderful, yet sad poem.

Ah.. the outcast poem. Very nice. Not everyone knows what it's like to be the one sitting by themselves. They think you're the weirdo, or the goth, or the smart one, or the artistic one. They'll either punk you... make you feel like you owe them something, or they'll be nice to you to get what they want. Disgusting. I regret to say that though I was one of the outcasts through much of my school experiences, I sold out my last year.. got in with the popular kids... started sports... I was still friends with my old friends, but part of me felt like I was betraying them. It was hard. I was still picked on by a few kids, but I was comfortable enough because of my entourage (sp?). Anyway. This poem really shows what you feel when you're being ostracized by a community, any community, even a church, or a town... anything really.

This is a wonderfully written poem. I believe most of us have felt
different, the loner, the one that never seems to fit in.

I felt the power you words hold, the sadness, yet the strength
that you stand and be who you are.

Keep up the good work...AD

Greate write. The feelings are beautifully expressed.I've felt this way sometimes and hence, I know, how bad it is.Nobody should be treated like that.Every voice has the right to be heard.
I hope that things are better now and you're feeling good.
Once again, well done!!...and keep writing.
