*Blog Example- FoodRequests*A Story by Jenny Villa*Meant to showcase foodie blog writing*25 Of The Most Famous Stars: What Food Items Do They Demand Backstage? So we all know that whenever tickets go on sale for a Drake concert or to go see queen Beyonce do her thing on stage, eyes are glued to a screen hoping to buy a pair before they sell out so you and your group of friends can go fan-girl in the front row, and respectfully so. Yes, delicious food is on our mind 24/7, but before going to a concert it's important to not eat anything too messy, like barbecue ribs or spaghetti, to make sure that you don't spill and ruin your outfit that you spent all week planning for. While staying Instagram-worthy is on our minds, what's on the star-of-the-show's mind? Are they planning out which brand new Lamborghini to buy after the show or which exotic island they would like to visit the next day? This might be news to you, but it turns out that celebrities are humans too! They think about eating food just as much as we mere common foodies do.. well, maybe not as much, but their favorite foods items are definitely at the top of their priority list when getting ready to perform for a sold-out concert. Before putting your money on that each mega-star orders a full on 5-course buffet with a tray of Oreo's to themselves, surprisingly some artists demand only hot dogs and Swedish fish for their backstage chamber. Others, however, will exceed your expectations on how picky one can be when it comes to their pre-performance cuisine. 25.John Legend Angel-voiced John Legend has been known to sweep fans off their feet with his dreamy love lyrics and suave looks since the early 2000s. His model-wife Chrissy Teigen is now a renown author of two cookbooks that are full of yummy comfort foods like PB blondies and Italian sandwiches, but surprisingly John's backstage cuisine requests aren't full of these food-coma inducing dishes. Possibly due to his wife's latest cookbook featuring a lot more veggies and healthier dishes, his request is simply to be provided with the same meal before every show: roasted chicken and steamed veggies, preferably broccoli as it's his favorite vegetable. With that type of diet, he'll be taking the stage for years to come, and we're 100% happy about it. 24.Lady Gaga Lady Gaga is known for wearing her food on stage and off, the definition of a true foodie if I must say, but what awaits her in the dressing room backstage? The pop singer's list of drink requests ranges from: ginger tea (accompanied with honey, of course), 1 4-pack of Red Bull Light, and 2 bottles of green tea. At least we know she's keeping her throat moisturized and performance-ready. Since she enjoys staying healthy overall, she requests a mix of assorted fresh fruits and a smoothie station fixed with frozen berries, whey protein, and non-fat Greek yogurt. Note, however, that all of the fruit provided MUST have edible skin or edible seeds. Aside from that, 1 plate of non-smelly cheese and veggie dogs and Gaga stays happy. 23.Kanye West There's not a lot of things that can make Kanye smile- unless it's backstage dressing room full of his favorite snack requests, which we completely relate to and understand. There's no doubt that Mr. West loves taking care of himself, according to a few of his songs, he's his favorite person. Therefore, keeping healthy finger-foods ready at all times before his performances is a must. His backstage list of food requests consist of 1 tub of plain Greek yogurt, 4 small Yoplait yogurts, 1 bowl of assorted nuts, 1 bowl of Sunkist salted pistachio nuts (No red coloring, please), and either Tabasco or a Caribbean type hot sauce. Just add a slushie machine filled with his go-to flavors of lemonade and Coke and it'll be a successful night.
Queen Bey has EVERY right to request the finest cuisine along with the finest backstage dressing room. But actually, according to fellow celebrities, she's very easy to work with and doesn't demand much, other than the “essentials”, of course. Her food requests consist of juicy baked chicken (legs, wings, and breast ONLY) that has been seasoned with fresh garlic, salt, black pepper, and a heavy amount of cayenne pepper. She also insists on some steamed garlic broccoli, lightly seasoned green beans, and seasoned steamed spinach. Our girl likes her chicken and veggies but ONLY allows Pepsi products to wash it down. We're not sure why, but we don't ask questions. 20.Daddy Yankee The Despacito singer has had a long career in the making, so he certainly knows what he likes to eat before and after his concerts. His strong Puerto Rican roots feed into his love of food and he insists on having his dressing room full of it; Puerto Rican-styled rice, seasoned chicken, you name it, he's requesting it. Other than the yummy Latin-inspired foods, he makes sure that an acceptable range of candy and trays of smoked turkey are available for him and his entire entourage to devour at all times. Anyone else thinking about applying to be one of his tour crew members? 19.Ed Sheeran We love Ed Sheeran as much as every other sane person in the world, but his lack of backstage food requests is almost unethical! Though he's been seen pounding down massive pepperoni pizzas by himself and obviously has a love for food, his list only contains a jar of Manuka Honey. One jar of honey, yet a barrel full of liquids. Like Gaga, he enjoys his choice of beverages. A 6-pack of Coca-Cola, a 6-pack of Diet Cola, a 6-pack of Fanta Orange, and a 6-pack of Sprite is to be in his room ready to be opened and chugged at any moment. Talk about a bad case of burps waiting to happen. As long as he gives an amazing performance like always, we won't mind. 18.Drake In recent years Drake has been topping the charts, reminding us of 9th-grade breakups, and turning every dance party into some of the best nights we've had. His tours hit almost every state while us, the adoring fans, wait our turn to see his talent in action. But what keeps him going for so long on the road? The secret to his madness is fruit trays (full of pineapples, kiwis, oranges, bananas, grapes, strawberries, and mango) and assorted herbal teas paired with three fresh lemons and one bottle of honey. Of course, some carbs are needed (when are they not). Therefore, bread, rolls, and jellies must be present as well. And no pork EVER. 17.Adele Our girl Adele has been using that beautiful voice of hers since her hit “Chasing Pavements” in 2008 and has since then created some of the most memorable shows we've ever been blessed with. It's no wonder her backstage food requests are so strict, she deserves it. In her dressing room, 2 non-organic bottles of clear honey, 1 assortment of chewing gum, 1 small selection of fresh fruit (must include bananas, apples, grapes, fresh berries, NO citrus fruit), and 1 small plate of assorted freshly made, individually wrapped sandwiches that include chicken salad must be present. Not too picky, until you learn that the chicken salad must NOT contain tomatoes, vinegar, chili, or citrus fruit of any kind. Must be something against citrus? 16.Eminem We grew up on Eminem and are forever in his debt for showing us how to rap at the speed of light as kids. He was out of the spotlight for a few years, but came back, topped the charts and held concerts that we all wanted a pair of tickets to. Regardless of how famous he gets, he'll never lose sight of his roots, especially his love for Lunchables. On his requested lists of foods, he demands 1 loaf of white bread, Gundelsheim pickles, and 6 Lunchables snacks (3 turkeys and 3 ham with cheese). Leave it up to Slim Shady to keep it simple. He did once order a pond of Koi fish to be in his dressing room, but who's judging? 15. Ariana Grande The beautiful Ariana Grande has been an avid vegan since the start of her singing career. According to her, the reason for the switch was because she likes animals more than most humans. You're not the only one, girl. Because of the superstar's strict diet, however, she demands an assortment of macrobiotic Japanese foods for her backstage dressing room. This means organic edamame, adzuki beans, and yummy tofu galore. Since her voice is obviously from the gods, it's no surprise that she also insists on having a large assortment of cold bottled water to keep her on her A-game. 14.Katy Perry Katy Perry is no doubt a huge foodie; always being the one to wear hot dogs costumes, dresses made out of candy, and is constantly pictured eating burgers and pizza. As a fellow foodie, we understand that there's NO shame in her game. Even though her love for junk food is no secret, her list of backstage requests is actually quite health-conscious. Her list includes fresh veggies (spinach, broccoli, celery, beets, carrots, and kale), 2 large baskets of fruit (one has to be tropical), and at least one vegetarian option for dinner. Oh, and never forget her freeze-dried strawberries. She's a woman of balance and as long as the occasional loaded hot dog makes a way in there, we have no problem with it. 13.Taylor Swift The talented Miss Swift is no doubt the picture-perfect girl next door who loves her comfort food just as much as she loves making music. But one can only handle so much comfort food right? Wrong. The pop star's food requests list all the foods we're afraid to indulge in for fear of not fitting into our skinny-pants anymore. It includes Starbuck's pumpkin loaf (if before 11 am), 3 boxes of Kraft Mac n Cheese, 1 avocado, 1 bag of Twizzlers, and 1 pint of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream. Taylor, you're style is great, your music's to-die-for, and your choice of food is admirable. We love you. 12.Kendrick Lamar Kendrick Lamar has a reputation for creating unforgettable music that has brought the most loyal fan base. So we know he makes great music, but more importantly, what are his backstage food choices? The “Humble” rapper lives up to his song name, not asking for much before he performs. Besides a weird request of a pair of fresh Polo socks, all he asks for is Fruity Pebbles and well seasoned baked chicken. If you're not a fan of Fruit Pebbles, we're not a fan of you. Kendrick, you're not alone in your simple requests of the cereal and chicken combo. 11.Miley Cyrus Just like Ariana, Miley's eating habits consist of a strict vegan diet. Her love of animals is also the main contributor to the life choice, but she'll never let it affect what she eats backstage. Like many of us foodies, Chinese cuisine has always held an important place in her heart. In her dressing room, you'll find trays of fried rice, chow mein, and a platter of churros. Our girl likes to switch it up, so she also requests bowls of fresh fruit and assorted herbal teas. Ever since her Hannah Montana days, Miley likes to keep us on our toes, but her admirable food choices will never change. 10.Rihanna Rih-Rih never disappoints when it comes to her impeccable style and chart-topping hits like “Diamonds” and “Love The Way You Lie”. She's been in the music scene for some time now and seems to have a different hairstyle for every new music video that comes out (we're jealous that she always makes them work). Her dressing room requests seem to have stayed the same over the years, however. She has a specific pallet that must be satisfied with every concert. Rihanna asks that hard-boiled eggs, turkey bacon, and turkey sausage be made available to her at all times. She also demands Cheetos, both regular and hot, Golden Grams, Oreos, Cup of Noodles, and garlic cloves make their way into her room. 9.DJ Khaled Is it something in the air or are a lot of celebrities increasingly more health-conscious these past few years? DJ Khaled is all about those vibes and staying on the health wave. According to him, a healthy environment keeps musical creativity flowing and puts everyone in a good mood. He asks that nutritional shakes, Silk almond milk, a fruit platter (including bananas and berries), and almonds are always in the room when he's preparing for a show or meeting with artists. Hey, collaborating with multiple award-winning artists 24/7 is no picnic. We admire his quest of staying healthy, especially if it pushes him to lead an unforgettable concert. 8.Travis Scott When Travis Scott isn't with his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, and isn't on daddy-duty, he's touring the world, having back to back concerts with no end in sight. So how does this dad become a super dad? It's not because of high-nutritional food, we'll tell you that much. The rapper's backstage list of requests includes the ultimate guy-guide to success: Fruit Roll-Ups, Honey Buns, Lucky Charms, and a scooter. His tour members agree that there's never really any healthy food around backstage and they function off of sweets and carbs. It truly sounds like heaven-on-earth, but, we admit, only in moderation. 7.Justin Bieber Justin Bieber has been in the spotlight way before he even got the first kiss, so a lot has changed for the superstar, including his go-to foods. Originally, Justin kept his requests short and sweet: tea, Swedish fish, and a size XS t-shirt. Nowadays, he lets himself indulge a little more, requesting peanut butter and cheese Ritz Bits, organic turkey, white cheddar popcorn, vegetables seasoned with ranch, and dried fruit. He also demands energy drinks, protein drinks, cream soda, and a half gallon of almond milk, all to be displayed in a glass-door refrigerator. One thing hasn't changed, however: he still requests XS t-shirts. 6.Frank Ocean Frank Ocean's one of those extremely talented musicians that enjoy being out of the spotlight, for years at a time even. From what we understand, he's super easy going and not very picky when it comes to his backstage food requests. According to his long-time pal, Tyler The Creator, he's been known to request unfrosted Pop-Tarts, which is already pretty odd- who doesn't like the frosting? To prove he's still human, he's asked for popcorn and hot sauce to be in his backstage dressing room. It's no question that he was blessed with an angelic voice, but his secret for staying strong and energized through shows? As long as he stays out of the spotlight, we may never know. 5.Selena Gomez If any single celebrity is relatable, it's Selena Gomez. We've followed her on her journey these past years and she's dealt with issues that we all have gone through. What makes her even more relatable is her transparency on who she is and, more importantly, the foods she likes. The pop singer keeps it simple backstage, requesting the essentials of water and pickles. Honestly, who doesn't love pickles?? Selena does enjoy her assortment of Hot Cheetos and chocolates, though. And whenever she needs to get some non-sweets in her, she goes for fresh turkey sandwiches, but they must NEVER be served on Wonder Bread. We agree with Sel, the bread completely makes or breaks the masterpiece of a sandwich. It is, indeed, art. 4.John Mayer If Eminem reminded you of your elementary school lunches, leave it up to John Mayer to bring back memories of how delicious those sugary breakfasts were back then. Before his performances, John would order a box of cereal (Captain Crunch, Lucky Charms, Count Chocula, Cookie Crisp, or Cinnamon Toast Crunch only), freshly squeezed orange juice, whole, and soy milk, and organic fruits to be sent to his room. His choice of having breakfast at any time of the day (especially at night) is short from genius. No wonder he's an award-winning musician. Another reason to keep his poster on our bedroom wall. 3.Steve Aoki This world-renown DJ has built up a reputation of hosting some of the wildest concerts and even crazier after parties. So what, one might ask, does a person eat in order to keep up with this hectic lifestyle? According to Steve, nutritional supplements are a MUST. Which might explain his backstage requests. His list of requests consists of wheatgrass shots, grass-fed meats, and occasional pizzas for his entourage. And don't forget the most important food item: soft cakes with soft icing. One cake's for eating, the others for throwing into the audience. At least he's considerate when ordering food. 2.Jay Z Bey's husband obviously also has every right to request an all you can eat buffet for his dressing room. Jay-Z has a more simple taste in food, however. The long-time rapper requests a heap of fluids ranging from 2 48-cased Fiji water bottles (24 cold/ 24 room temperature), 6 cans of Coca-Cola, 6 cans of Red Bull, and 6 bottles of Vitamin Water. To pair with all these drinks, he requests only 1 jar of good, quality peanut butter and 1 jar of good, quality grape jelly. If we have anything in common with mega-stars, it's that we both know that a good PB&J is enough to make any person happy. 1. G-Eazy So what are the ingredients of a successful concert? For some it's Cheetos, for others it's citrus-free chicken salad sandwiches. For G-Eazy, we realized that his requests were much simpler than his fellow musicians. The hip-hop artist demanded that only three food items be delivered to him backstage: pizza, mac and cheese, and coffee. As we admire his lack of pickiness and obviously great taste in comfort foods, we question his disinterest in ordering heaps of any dish he can think of. Maybe he's watching his figure? Or doesn't want to be dragged down by a food-baby on stage? Either way, his self-control when it comes to food is commendable. As long as his performances stay awesome, that's all that matters. © 2019 Jenny Villa |
