A Poem by Andrew C

Her black hair frizzled and uncombed

Flowed with the wind

As she hugged her knees

Bracing her chin between them

As her eyes gazed across the sea

“Blue skies and rainbows” she recited

“Blue skies and rainbows”

Crossing her fingers

She opened her brown eyes

Hoping to see what she wished for

To get away

To find peace

To run away from torment of her mentors

Who claimed love but induced pain upon her

How could you look at this girl

And think she is struggling to live life

When she walks with a smile

Hums a tune and skips in step

How could you imagine within all this beauty lies pain
