External Oppression Internalized

External Oppression Internalized

A Poem by JetMardium

Left right left right

Stick in line

Stay out of sight

Keep you thoughts in your mind

Let them out

They will judge and stare

Some will shout

Be assured they all do care

Not necessarily in a good way

This awful truth of existence

Each and every day

We have an internal resistance

An army in our head

Soldiers to stifle our freedom

Rebels to fight this dread

When they fail we run

Far away

Never far enough

They follow us day by day

To strong, to rough

We try

We fight

We die

Beneath the might

Heavy handed

Full of hope

Till left stranded

And forced to mope

We rise above

We persevere

We learn to love

We make it though here

This place called life

We keep going

Having avoided the knife

And forever knowing
