the things that upset youA Poem by Katie Foutz Vossprioritize
The tipping, teeter-totter,
world lacking balance tumbles off the axle into the hands of God. And what will you say? What words will spill from unworthy lips in a worthless explanation. "We closed our mouths to defend ourselves! "We killed the violent for a moment's peace! "We fought for our enemies, and wept in their absence, we covered your Salvation with their Sin." The unspinning Earth will lay still in His great palms, and He will not ask you again. He will know at once the crimes in your pockets which you carried so proudly like a handful of change or a ring of keys to shiny cars. You went to war for the tyrants. You kept alive a killer. In the wake of their fallen statues you will rage most bitterly, while there are still widowed mothers and children killed safe in the womb, still hungry men waiting for someone to speak in their place. © 2010 Katie Foutz VossReviews
