An Unnecessary Comparison

An Unnecessary Comparison

A Poem by Katie Foutz Voss
"

for Joseph <3

"

A divergence in attraction
causes frequent and harsher lovers

who, while being lovely,

never quite understand.

And when the dust settles

so often one might settle too

with a lesser albeit devout mate.

You, in an unnecessary comparison,

are far beyond attraction.

And we, my dear, settle not.

For you have mastered that

which ignites purer passions

and pacifies the trembling heart

that drums within my chest.

You are delightfully skilled

with a far softer touch,

and that far gentler a hold,

which divergence cannot destroy.
