![]() In the bathtubA Poem by Katie Foutz VossIn the bathtub, out on a limb of anxiety.
Woman in the room, in the soap, in the water, in a cataclysmic thought process, shrivelling and soaking it up. How does one have an affair? There is nothing to have the affair from. No contract, no wedding ring, no sighs or passions of midnights. How does one leave a place they've never been? Maybe he didn't make a promise, she thinks, but I will surely love him always. And there was that pause in the waters, as the 'L' word slipped between the suds and her freckled ankles, catching her, saying, Don't go any further in! Maybe he didn't make a promise, she thinks, but I know he loves me just as deeply. There would be no understanding. The younger man was drawn to her eyes, her blossoming lips, her lover's tongue, quirky woman who verged on loneliness. The younger man is easily swept away, in confusion, by her swallowing words. The older man, being the other old soul, feels her heart beating in the pages. He glides in the waves of poetry. But how do you flatter a man? How do you hold ego to your heart? Does one simply say, You are quite muscular. Or perhaps, Your intelligence is so keen. A woman can be bought if you tell her of her desirable mind, her undeniable beauty. But approach a man's soul, and one might drown in the voiding seas. © 2008 Katie Foutz VossReviews
