The Twentieth Day (Oh, Yeah)

The Twentieth Day (Oh, Yeah)

A Poem by Katie Foutz Voss

Divisions of thought in mid-sentence,
sentenced
to be had mid-stream of traffic,
trafficked words flowing in and out and,
oh yeah,
locked away.
Sparingly administered emotive motives,
sending me spiraling
beneath the demanding tires and bumpers
of semi-trucks and semi-conscious realities
that strike with such force
it gets reawakened.
Only to realize--oh yeah, it gets seen--
the fingers of desperation have been splintered.
Infinitely fragile heart strings
tied round the hazardous sword of truth.
Nothing moves. But something breathes
when the countdown begins and,
oh yeah,
hope is put on trial.

Traffic can grate on your nerves sometimes. But one thing, it gives time for self reflection.. I enjoyed very much the start with the repetitive use of sentence & traffic. Some emotive imagery throughout. I liked the phrase:"the hazardous sword of truth" The last line is so true.. Hope is always questioned as being false.. Anyway, Happy New Year.
