She Died In That Town

She Died In That Town

A Poem by Jessica Gillitzer
"

Recently reminded of a past I put far behind me, still want to forget.

"
Do you remember me?

The quiet girl that sat across from you in class
Half smile to hide her fears
Long sleeves to cover up the bruises
Never missed a day because home was a nightmare
How she spent her days pen in hand buried within pages of her notebook...
Telling stories to pages with sealed lips

Do you remember me?

The girl who wandered the railroad tracks alone
Smoking a cigarette and dreaming of where the parallel steel could take her
Laying on that cold steel hoping she wouldn't have to make the walk home again
How she seemed to be everywhere in town but at home
How everyone saw her but none knew her...
Would she have spoken if you smiled

Do you remember me?

The broken girl sitting in the snow smoking a joint in plan sight
How she would silently accept the unwanted hands on her in the hall at school
The times you'd pass her crying alone on the stairs
The way she would shrink when her name was called in class
When she came to school hair dyed black and eyes painted dark
That girl without a name, without a home...
Without a voice

If you do, please forget her...
She died in that town

Wow! I think this is truly wonderful. I think it is truly universal--as great poetry should be. I think everyone who has been through life-things that change them or "kill them" can feel so much about this piece.
I don't think you should reread or rewrite this at all, but that's just me. I too have a dead younger version of me, and this hit me just as it was.

I tend to read something than infuse music with a review these days, and miss maam i think you might want to re read what you have written with thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5A4xBp2rizQ just an idea but the words of what sounds like a hopeless teen can express her views and not be judge. enjoy the song.

The sentiment is a little emo in how it's presented but if this autobiographical than you have had a rough life and I apologize for the first comment. leaving things behind is hard but sometimes you have to approach the past like it something you put in a bottle and throw out to sea. but overall it was good. My problem is I came from a broken home. and whenever I write about it I feel like I am sniveling. this sounds more like you become confident and that is good. I am trying to think of what to say because it has shaken me a little bit. which means you did your job so yeah good job.
