The Edge of The WildsA Poem by Jessica Gillitzer
I linger where you are, I search your eyes as they look right past me
They're a kaleidoscope of broken hopes and haunting realities You're looking at me directly now, but your eyes tell me you can't see me anymore You see every moment that fell apart, every thing you wanted I can't give you Seeing me for every flaw real or not you turn away, I must be hard to look at... your grand disappointment, I'm the should've , could've, and would'ves realized I linger in our past, when you saw me with hope and inspiration You've long since forgotten days when we were hopeful for the heights we could reach together These days you see me as your feathers plucked one by one, in your eyes I'm why you can't fly You no longer see my arms as home, you no longer remember these hands cradled broken you In your eyes I see the fear of a caged animal, as if my love were a barbed wire fence You're a stallion just waiting for an open gate unattended, you've forgotten how cold and desolate the world was I linger on moments you smiled at my words, times when just meeting my eyes set you alight I hold to these thoughts as it becomes more impossible to hold on to you So many times you ran and too many times I held tight being drug behind as you fled If I let go would you return, would you regret fleeing once I was no longer in view Would you remember me some day when its cold out, would you miss the warmth of my love? When the snow covers your tracks will you remember the way home to my heart? Or will I linger at the edge of the wilds never to see you again? © 2018 Jessica Gillitzer |
