Hoping For More

Hoping For More

A Poem by Jessica Gillitzer

You said you’re here for me,
I lied when I told you that was something I could see.
You claimed to be my rock,
But you’re more like an unopenable lock.
You said you’d help me find my dreams,
But no sooner have I written them and you’re tearing them from my ream.

I needed you
I’d bleed for you
But I won’t plead with you

You say you love me,
But on this edge you’d be the one to shove me.
You claim you want me,
But those seem like words only meant to haunt me.
You say you listen to me,
But you can’t hear these tears glisten.

I needed you
I’d bleed for you
But I can’t plead with you

I adore you,
Maybe it’s because you ignore me
Maybe it’s because the shore I can no longer see.
Maybe it’s because I finally can’t win this war.

But you I still adore...
I can’t help hoping for more
