What if...

What if...

A Poem by J.R. Turner

I’m sitting in this room

it’s as if I can feel time moving.

Our books open flat before us,

the A.C. howling from above.

The lights staring blindingly down,

causing my headache to worsen.

My thoughts take on a life of their own

going this way and that way,

Creating vivid what if scenes to play.

What if the person beside me up and died?

Would I feel sympathy? Or humor?

What if someone brought me flowers?

Would I be grateful? Or annoyed?

What if my professor had a heart attack?

Would I go to help? Or just sit back and watch?

So many scenarios play across the screen.

If only they knew these thoughts in my head.

Would they join in the fun of What if?

Or would they run like scared little girls?

I suppose I will never know

for this class is almost over

The game coming to a victorious end.
