The Owl in The NIghtA Poem by JessicabObserving the owlLurking in the night oh so quietly High above the asphalt other species walk upon As I awaken with my blazing yellow eyes while dusk falls to midnight I listen as little critters scatter for shelter while darkness falls The sun falls, the stars gleam, and the moon's slight glow intensifies my eyes even more Blankets of shadows cover the earth allowin me the freedom to soar while remaining in camouflage I stay hidden on the thickest finger of the tree I listen intently... silence The wind blows against me, I move not The branches move under me, I move not The leaves dance around me, I move not Then suddenly everything ceases, and I move not It's midnight now and I begin my flight Soaring into the oblivion of the night Through the wind I hear my meal squirm for the shelter that has now been blocked by a fallen branch Poor thing, the critter will never see daylight again Like a whip striking its victim, I snatch my prey and escort it to its death © 2014 JessicabAuthor's Note
