Standards

Standards

A Poem by JessicaGadziala

I have this fear that
with all this giving of
second chances
I have given away something
vital of myself-
my hope
or ideals
or standards for how
I know I should be treated.
Though when my arms find themselves
empty for months on end,
excuses become easier
than sticking to my morals.
But maybe falling asleep
next to someone
is more harmful
than laying awake alone
if it means my
dignity
and standards
stay intact
for a change.

Wow...now this is a wonderful piece, a joy to read for me personally as it hits home. Speaks of the inner battle some face extremely accurately. So glad I've past that point long ago (the standards winning out!) but this is necessary and should read by many.
What a great idea came up here. I'm stashing this one in the "favs box" ...BRILLIANT!

Thanks for the 100/100 share
