Give Me WaterA Poem by Jessica JaufmannGive Me Water My lips peeled and red metallic liquid touched My tongue. I swallowed the copper, it’s like The heaving in my chest hasn’t stopped for Weeks, and I ache. There is only orange sand among the war of thirst. The drought came upon us heavy, We were in a dystopic wasteland, Fighting each other for it. As the ground grew dry, No longer birthing its green, aquatic babies, We hoarded it. We kept it for ourselves and never told Anyone. To them, we were suffering too.
Those who we knew, Trusted, They came too often. When our wells dried, our hearts did too. There is no more water now, We swallowed it all. © 2016 Jessica JaufmannAuthor's Note
