Prediction?A Story by Jessica O.the dream that I had the night before my ex-boyfriend's mother's funeralI enter the coffee shop, wondering how much warmer it would get today. It was June; perfect weather to walk downtown just as I am doing today. Only this time it's not out of leisure, it was because I agreed to meet someone here. My boyfriend's mother, to be exact. It's only a little cooler in the building. I look around, trying to see if there was an older woman here that looks like she's waiting for an almost seventeen-year-old woman who happens to be dating her youngest son. I finally give up my search and sit down at an empty table. I take out my notebook and start writing a poem of some sort about the blue sky. "Excuse me," a voice interrupts. I look up briefly. An older woman is there in front of me. "Yes?" I ask in response. "Are you... Jessica?" she asks. I nod. "I'm supposed to meet you today." "I suppose you are the one that I'm supposed to meet today, right?" I reply. "Of course. I can't stay long; I have to get home and make sure my sons are okay. I just wanted to tell you something." She pauses, waiting for me to allow her to continue. "Oh please, go on," I urge. "I'm so happy that my son chose a really sweet, kind-hearted young lady like you. Should anything happen to you two in the future that involves marriage, I would like you to know that I bless it right here, right now. Are you surprised?" "Very much so, ma'am." "Well, I must go. Take care of yourself, and of my son too. He'll need you for the next couple of months. Goodbye, Jessica." She walks away, never to return again. *********************************************************************************************************************** I lay awake in my bed, stunned by my dream. Did my boyfriend's recently deceased mother really tell me in a dream that she blessed our relationship? And does that mean that he and I will get married someday? I will never know until it actually occurs. © 2010 Jessica O. |
