Apocalypse (Nightmare)

Apocalypse (Nightmare)

A Poem by Jessica O.

Fires on either side of the isolated street

Broken glass and other rubbish litter the sidewalk

Your children are crying, but still you remain

Immune to the hurt surrounding you

You hear shots of suicide at the house on the corner

While you hear someone's thoughts that are similar to yours:

Is this the end?

Questions pour out from either side

While hellfire consumes the homes nearby

Many die, and yet you choose not to help the grieving

You thought you knew all, but you never saw this coming

Tonight it is hot as hell, though no one knows

That if this is hell, then it will be worse later.

You wake, thinking this won't happen to you

One day it will, one day you'll die

Be it as catastrophic, you'll never know

Be it as lonely, no one knows

But due to your actions of long ago,

You may not be forgiven by some

For all that you did

One day, you will know

That the rain that falls is the tears of your loved ones

Crying, whether alive or dead,

That you will never be with them

Would you like to suffer with that eternal thought?
