Revenant

Revenant

A Poem by Jesse J Downey
"

Along the way we died inside, souls forsaken, buried alive. Our flesh paled to a sickly white, yet our blood still refused to dry.

"

Along the way we died inside,

souls forsaken, buried alive.

Our flesh paled to a sickly white,

 yet our blood still refused to dry.

Still alive, but barely breathing;

 dead spirit, but veins still bleeding.

Our ghosts leaving; our souls cursing;

pulling the seams for their release.

We are nothing, faded to gray,

but to the rest we look the same.

We are the night, who die by day.

 Revenants damned to stay awake.

For the hope felt came in our dreams,

but along with our souls went sleep.

So curse the day that we first breathed,

condemned by eternal vitality.

"We are the night who die by day" I absolutely love that line! I love this whole poem and I love the flow. It feels like something straight out of a book :)
