The Forbidden Fruit

The Forbidden Fruit

A Poem by Jesse Booker

From the heavens to Earth
I've been walking to and fro'
I've seen the beauty of Paradise
And the anguish of the soul

For when he spoke to thee
He called you not by name
But said "Helper, hearken unto me"
For you are a woe-to-man

Partake now the forbidden fruit
My humble offering
For the goddess who stands before me
And for all who will ever live

I know that he hath said
That you will surely die
But that, my love, is a lie
For you have never lived

Mockingly, he made you
From the rib of a man
Now he wants his rib returned
And to be called by his name

This man made from the dirt
Must be saved by your wisdom
Now, shall I call you Mrs. Dirt
Or shall you become a god?

Partake now the forbidden fruit
My humble offering
For the goddess who stands before me
And for all who will ever live
