The Silent MoonA Poem by Jesse BookerOh Moon, how
you are romanticized In the
darkness, a beacon of light You captured
the hearts and minds of men You glow
with myst’ry, your light is thin
The artist
has cause to flatter you As she
portrays your soft, cool beauty You are depicted
above the seas Causing its
waves to shimmer with life
As lovers
unite in the darkness You set the
stage for passionate love Your mellow
light lends us your blessing As old
friends bond ‘round the bonfire
Your gentle
light dares not to judge us As our party
runs throughout the night You hover
above the city lights Man and
nature combined in beauty
How can we
so soon forget the rest? Can we
objectively call you blessed? Are you
blind to our pain and misery? Or are you
just cold and complacent?
You were
there in the Inquisition Your light
did reveal our agony You were
silent during the Great War When the
whole world cried out in terror
As the flesh
burned from the innocent You were in
the sky over Salem In the
nights of our deepest despair You still
hung in the sky…silent…unmoved
Maybe you’re
only a hunk of rock Without
benevolence nor malice Perhaps we
can now just face the truth That we are
the ones who gave you life © 2015 Jesse BookerReviews
