Gusts

Gusts

A Poem by RainFire

Trees rustling in the wind

Powerful gusts push hard on traveler’s faces

Coming from one place to another is the challenge presented against elements of ancient times

No one survives its warmth wicking capability

Coldness becomes the only thought

Heat the only desire

Breaking down of the spirit

Everything has become too far away

The shelter once home now falls to the list of wants

Breath stolen, air commanded to retreat from

lungs inflict pain of a heaving chest

Still the march of legs takes the rest of the body, though the mind is vacant

Tears blow away

Hope is all the know this situation allows

Survival has no time for truth

Lost

At last the fall

No strength for a cry

No medium for a message

Departing brings a smile if not for everything to miss

The mind protects, takes me away to a warm memory

The unrelenting cold finds a new companion out of the being that stirs no longer

Never again wishing to flee
