Clutching onto strings of hope slipping through my fingers
I won’t let go until the darkness takes me too

I really liked this and, as Chris points out, each reader will see something personal in the lines that may apply to the individual life. For me, it reminds me of a friend who, years ago, lost her husband slowly to addiction- she was always there for him and would have done anything for him; he had periods when he would fight the addiction, but in the end, his choices were too strong and she could no longer hold him back by her love.

I think you've found a fair way to talk with yourself through a relationship. I guess each of your readers have to decide for themselves their own "breakpoint" and what they'll do when it's reached.
