Fingertips Reach

Fingertips Reach

A Poem by That1Nerd23

Night by night, I lie awake.
Reminiscing on times of old.
Drifting in and out of reality,
My thoughts feel more like home.

Pushing them away at times,
When they leave me aching for more.
I'm hopelessly trying not to open the door
But some things we cannot ignore.

My heart yearns,
My mind bids me let go.
Deciding to accept
These feelings I own.

I speak to you with a genuine heart.
Every word, ever beat,
Every moment of oblivion's silence.
I am being true.

But there hasn't been a day gone by
That I haven't thought of you...
Longed for you.
Dreamth of you.

I am within fingertips reach
Though still so far away.
I believe you are too,
And this is how it must stay.

Damn, this was good. The tug of war between the head and the heart is a stressful battle. Unfortunately, it's a battle that's waged despite better judgement. I specifically enjoyed the lines about the heart yearning while the mind wanting to let go. I've come to realize it's okay to let go sometimes because often the mind understands what the heart often overlooks. Only sometimes. Most times, when the feelings are strong enough then it's probably reciprocal. Its's the kind of love we all want. Great read.

Reminiscing is such a bizarrely spelled word to me.

Your thoughts are your only home. Everybody wants to leave home for a while. Just never forget the way back.

'Dreamth' isn't a word... dreamt is though. But the proper spelling sounds like s**t in this poem so I wouldn't change that. The secret spelling police won't come for you in the dead of night, I promise.

There is an honesty in your writing that I appreciate. I'd like to see you write something more complex. That should be interesting.

very much a creative write, the emotions invoked here are so strong that it is like the heart speaks out for itself

Perfect flowing from each true word. I listen, I hear and truly feel.

your word arrangement is so much more than just clever. Your opening phrase very powerful. It is everything you want from a memory, tangibility, and longevity.

So close and yet so far - a poetic longing for moment perhaps too much to hope for - well written - good read - :-)

Precisely. Thank you!
There is a music that echoes through the words, a painful, beautiful song of love and loss. Everything of light, every memory, every longing, is colored in the darkness of the haunting melody.
