What If?

Look around, do you see the splendor

Do you see the honeysuckle and honeybees

Listen now, can you hear the birds

Can you hear the rain and all the seas

 

Think and ponder all that you’re not seeing

Think of all that’s hidden and out of sight

We only catch a glimpse and we marvel

Imagine if the sun shone its light

 

And saturated itself in all of life’s cracks

What then would we see, what then would we lack

You think we have little, yet really we have a lot

We have all that we need, yet we sit here and rot

 

We stay in the house on lovely little days

We sit on the couch and watch the Lakers play

But what if we changed this? What if we were free

To embrace all of nature, all creation and living things

 

What if the drama at school and at work

Could all become silent and never again lurk

What if the magic in two lover’s kiss

Could really be felt and be classified as bliss

 

What if the heartbreak that all of us face

Could simply just vanish from mercy and grace

What if our teachers would teach us the truth

Stop filling our heads with lies and show us some proof

 

What if the joy of friendship could be on display

Like a plane taking off from the airway

What if temptation and sin could no longer prevail

But rather be crushed left shattered in its sail

 

And what if true love really was true

No more empty promises that inside of us would brew

But rather faithfulness that blossoms as a flower so rare

We’d never again have wonder the degree of our partner’s care
