The Forbidden Staircase

The Forbidden Staircase

A Poem by That1Nerd23

Walking down the forbidden staircase

I swept the cob webs off my startled face

I drifted along in the dusk of the night

Seeking the simple comfort of the light

And trying to see beyond the shadows

I saw movement within the billows

So I wandered about with such alert eyes

I listened to the noises, I listened to the sighs

And out from the field sprung forth a man

He was in mere haste and after him I ran

I became closer with each passing moment

Making him increasingly abhorrent

But what was I to do? Let him die?

Would it really be worth it, for me to lie?

The path was ending and ahead was a cliff

Before we reached the cliff I heard a little sniff

And I grabbed his hand and jerked him away

Because instead of walking away he needed to stay

His tears began to stream down his weary face

And it was in that moment the Lord offered His grace
